- Assess chain condition

- Reassemble chainsaw components
During your studies you will plan repair and maintenance activities in line with manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations.
Identify, diagnose, tag and report chainsaw faults, malfunctions or irregular operation for repair or replacement. Complete maintenance and reassemble the serviced chainsaw.
What sort of assessments can I expect to complete?
Interlink’s Maintain chainsaws (FWPCOT2237) course contains a combination of written and practical assessments.
Written assessments test your knowledge of learning elements including:
- features and names of different parts of chainsaws
- purpose and operation of tools and equipment used to repair and maintain chainsaws
- differences between frequent and periodic chainsaw maintenance requirements
- specifications and types of bars, chains and sprockets
- hazards for maintaining chainsaws and methods to minimise risks
- workplace health and safety with particular emphasis on equipment lock out and use of personal protective equipment.
Practical assessments assess your ability to demonstrate key performance criteria such as:
- performing routine services on chainsaws, for example; removing, checking and cleaning air filters; filling fuel tanks and chain oil tanks; checking safety devices
- completing periodic services on chainsaws in line with manufacturer’s instructions, for example; replacing drive sprocket; inspecting and replacing starter cord and starter spring; checking and replacing fuel filters
- checking and sharpening chainsaw chains.
Assessment are conducted in a variety of places including forest environments, workshops, botanical gardens and agricultural settings and are held over the duration of the unit.

Entry Requirements
