Study Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation at Interlink

Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (HLTAID009) gives you the skills to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. Learn to recognise when a person is unconscious and not breathing and to keep them alive until an ambulance arrives.

Gain the confidence to apply effective treatment procedures in life threatening situations. Learn to communicate the details of the incident and to evaluate your own performance.

Interlink’s Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation training is an accredited course and meets compliance requirements for Australian workplaces.

What will I learn during the Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation unit?

Interlink’s course gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise and respond to emergency situations requiring CPR. Learn the basics of anatomy and physiology to help you assess the patient and determine the need for CPR.

Discover how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with ARC guidelines and how to operate automated external defibrillator (AED).

During the course of your studies you will learn skills and knowledge relating to:

  • managing airways and breathing in unconscious patients
  • airway obstructions due to body position
  • appropriate duration and cessation of CPR
  • chain of survival actions
  • infection control principles.

What sort of assessments can I expect to complete?

Interlink’s course contains a combination of written and practical assessments.

Written assessments test your knowledge of learning elements (knowledge evidence) including:

  • Following the DRSABCD first aid method in line with ARC guidelines
  • Understanding and following the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Infection control procedures, including use of standard precautions and resuscitation barrier devices
  • Techniques for providing CPR to adults, children and infants
  • Legal and workplace considerations, such as duty of care, limitations of own skills and consent and how it relates to both conscious and unconscious casualties.

Practical assessments are used to assess your ability to demonstrate key performance criteria (performance evidence) such as:

  • Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult and on an infant resuscitation manikin
  • Demonstration of rotation of single rescuer operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
  • Responding to simulated first aid scenarios within workplace scenarios
  • Correct handing over to emergency services
  • Demonstrating safe manual handling techniques.

Assessments are conducted within workplace and classroom settings and are held over the duration of the unit.

What do I get for completing Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation ?

Completing Interlink’s course meets the national requirements for the accredited Unit of Competency (HLTAID009).

You will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment when you successfully complete this course.

Note: Some industries  require you to refresh your CPR knowledge regularly. Interlink offers a reminder service to make sure you meet the standard of your industry.
