Study Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker at Interlink
Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker (UETTDREL14) is a course designed to give workers with non-electrical backgrounds the knowledge to stay safe and understand compliance requirements when working near live power sources.
Working in vegetation control, rigging, scaffolding, painting and other roles near power lines requires an understanding of electricity and how to comply with guidelines for safe working zones within current industry practices.
During the course of your studies you will gain an understanding of basic electrical principals, study transmission and distribution and the fundamentals for working safely near live electrical apparatus.
What do I get for completing Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker?
Completing Interlink’s course meets the national requirements for the accredited Unit of Competency (UETTDREL14).
Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker (UETTDREL14) is a core competency within over 20 training packages including the Certificate III in Arboriculture and the Certificate II in ESI – Powerline Vegetation Control.
You will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment when you successfully complete this course.
Note: This unit supersedes and is equivalent to UETTDREL14 – Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker as of September 2019.
What will I learn during Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker?
Interlink’s course teaches you to work safely within defined zones near energised electrical mechanisms (such as powerlines).
Learn how to prepare for working around live electricity by assessing infrastructure assets, related voltages and identifying safe approach distances.
Develop an understanding of risk assessment control, OHS policies and the procedures to follow in case of an incident.
What sort of assessments can I expect to complete?
Interlink’s Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker (UETTDREL14) course contains a combination of written and practical assessments.
Written assessments test your knowledge of learning elements including:
- the principles of electricity, the three-phase power system, electric shock and resuscitation
- relevant technical standards. Acts, regulations and guidelines
- basic safety principles for work on electrical apparatus
- the Hierarchy of Control, to minimise or eliminate exposure to hazards
- sustainable energy principles and practices.
Practical assessments are used to assess your ability to demonstrate key performance criteria such as:
- confirming safe working zones for work and access near live electrical mechanisms
- recognising aerial voltage systems
- identifying low voltage aerial circuits and high voltage areas
- risk assessment and management JSAs (Job Safety Analysis)
- applying hazard identification in electrical work.
