WA Tree Climbing Championship Recap 2024

June 8, 2024 By Tanya King

The 2024 ArbWest Western Australia Tree Climbing Championship was held at Claughton Reserve in the City of Bayswater on Saturday 16 March.

This is always a great event as some of the best climbers in the country show off their skills across Aerial Rescue, Ascent, Speed Climb, Throwline, and Work Climb. The top 7 qualifiers from these events progress through to the Masters Climb to determine the overall winner.

Congratulations to overall winner Riki Peterson on yet another fantastic display. Riki was joined on the podium by Pascal Oosterik and Oliver Willmoth. You can view the full list of results on the ArbWest website.

Of the 22 WA participants who competed at the WA Tree Climbing Championship, Interlink Training is proud to announce that 17 of them are currently training, or have undertaken a formal qualification, through Interlink.

As an ArbWest Gold Sponsor, Interlink Training identifies the importance of being able to get together as an industry to network and have a bit of healthy competition. That’s why we introduced the Rising Star Award that recognizes someone who showed a positive and enthusiastic approach and attitude to climbing and is keen to learn and grow.

This year’s Interlink Rising Star Award went to Cassidy Van Hulst Peterson from Kimberley Tree Care. Cassidy, who has been climbing for less than 2 years, not only qualified for the championships, he then finished 20th in the State. An outstanding effort!

As a training provider in the arboriculture industry, we take great pride in providing support to ensure events like these are successful and can continue. If you are interested in finding out more about our involvement in such events, please contact us online or by calling us on 1300 731 669.
